A lover of people + queso

Dec 30, 2019

Hi, my name is Rachel and I am the girl with the camera and some big dreams. In 2019, I decided to take on one of my biggest dreams yet, owning my own business. R Photography was established January 1st 2019 and has been slowly growing for a year now. The growth stage will never be over, but I am excited to see what I can accomplish in the years to come.

I am a lover of people and queso. Yep that’s about it.

Good people + good food = a happy Rachel!

My photography journey started way back in my Junior year of high school. I was 17 and a completely Tumblr driven artsy fartsy girl. I had no real way of expressing myself or my over dramatic teenage angst. (If you have no idea what tumblr is, just look it up and you will understand) My parents bought me a Canon T3i for Christmas in 2011. My parents have always been my number one supporters. I grabbed my camera and started shooting. Yep, I took pictures of everything and had no idea what I was doing.

When I went off to college I took a few classes in film photography and absolutely fell in love. I have a huge appreciation and fondness for the art of film and fine art photography as a whole. I then decided to major in graphic design with a concentration in photography. I have interned, worked multiple sessions for free, and put in countless hours of learning, practicing, and executing valid skills in art and photography. I feel confident in the time that I have put in to be able to add real value to my craft.

So what? why? Many people would never say this out loud but most likely say to themselves. “Why should I care? You are just another overpaid wedding photographer in this oversaturated market.” I will agree with this statement in some sense. Some wedding photographers charge way too much for what they give, but many in the industry are trustworthy and fair. Wedding photography is a HUGE responsibility with minimal if not any room for mistakes. Yes, I know there are a ton of us out in the market, but we are all different with our styles, cameras, gear, editing, and personality. And that’s the beauty of it! Because naturally as humans we are all unique, so is each style of photographer. No one photographer is the same!

Alright someone please get me off my soapbox.

Here we are almost a decade later and I still have so much to learn. Looking forward, I am working hard to make my second year of business even better than the first. 8+ wedding for 2020, starting to book for 2021, and working towards finical stability for my business. Started from the bottom and still here, but the grind is real. Everyday I put more and more into my brand which I believe can change the world.

If not, at least we all still have each other + queso.
